Rumen Analyser
The wireless Rumen Analyser provides fully automated continuous monitoring of rumen pH, redox and temperature.
The typical kit comprises of,
The eBolus has negative buoyancy so that it remains in the rumen reticulum and its pepper-pot head allows constant monitoring of the liquor. It uses a robust stable electrode so that it rarely needs calibration and at 115 mm by 27 mm diameter it is the smallest bolus on the market.
The Rumen Analyzer stores data continuously which can be downloaded to a computer on demand.
The technology uses a global standard wireless protocol to transmit data to the hand held pc. Data can then be transferred securely to other computers by wi-fi, mobile internet, data stick or cable. Being easy to use and configure to desired sampling frequencies, its adaptable for use in even the most extreme research programmes.
The radio frequency is legal world wide and has a range of up to 2 metres from the cow. The sampling rate is programmable between 1 and 59 minutes, and the device can store up to 4 weeks of data sampled every 15 minutes. More over, the battery life is sufficient to allow re-use when extracted from the rumen and recalibrated, and has a life of 60 days worth of logging and 15 months on the shelf.
The accuracy is +/- 0.1 pH per 30 days and +/-0.1 C for the temperature in the range of 30-45 C.
The device is very robust and can survive a 2 metre drop onto a concrete surface although we do not recommend trying this.
PC Tablet
The download is controlled by single touches on the screen of the handheld Windows PC which is protected by a waterproof, padded, washable cover.
The Data is downloaded by holding the computer close to the cows flank. Files are automatically named with an audio beep and blinking light to indicate that the download is working correctly.
